At the heart of the ORB MK1 are its carbon fiber reeds, which act as the instrument’s tone generators. Each reed is engineered with the fibers aligned along its length, following the grain. This not only results in exceptional strength and durability, but also produces a warm, expressive tone reminiscent of the classic Wurlitzer electric piano. At the end of each reed sits a precision-weighted tip with a triangle-shaped front. As the reed vibrates, this uniquely shaped weight creates a rich and complex waveform, contributing to the instrument’s signature sound. Instead of traditional magnetic pickups, the ORB MK1 uses an optical sensing system. As the front of the reed oscillates, it passes through an optical sensor, capturing the vibrations with high fidelity and zero electromagnetic interference. This method ensures clear, articulate sound reproduction, while preserving the full character of the analog reed.

The Tentij Optical Reed Bass is a fully mechanical instrument, built with precision and intent. Its compact size makes it incredibly easy to handle and integrate into any setup, whether on stage, in the studio, or at home, without sacrificing performance or playability. Achieving this level of compactness while still offering a true mechanical hammer action keybed required some clever engineering. The ORB MK1 features a miniaturized, upside-down version of a traditional upright piano action, made possible through the use of carefully placed magnets. The result? A delicate yet sturdy key feel that provides a premium, expressive playing experience, allowing musicians to perform with nuance, dynamics, and control, all within a highly portable form factor.

TUNE THE ORB MK1 YOURSELF
WITH THE TUNERS ON THE BOTTOM!

On the underside of the ORB MK1, you'll find 25 grooves with tuning screws. these act as the frets of the instrument. Each screw is connected to a carbon fiber reed, and by loosening and sliding the screw up or down, you can adjust the pitch of that reed. This makes the ORB MK1 not just an expressive analog instrument, but also a fully tunable one. To make this process easy, each unit ships with a dedicated screwdriver for tuning.
